Why less is more in skincare

Why less is more in skincare

By Valentina Bevacqua, Chief Chemist at Clean Rebel

“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Today, we are overwhelmed with the sheer amount of personal care products. Brands are continuously introducing new products to address various skin concerns, leading to increasingly complex beauty routines. This inevitably confuses consumers, not only about the purpose but also about the sequence of use for each product. Not surprisingly, a growing number of consumers are embracing a minimalist approach to beauty, looking to simplify their beauty regimen and multitask with fewer, more effective products.

Using less than ten ingredients in each product is one of Clean Rebel’s core concepts. In fact, all of our products only contain between three to eight ingredients each. Conventional beauty often contains a long list of potentially harmful ingredients, fillers, and additives for ease of formulation, color, scent, and even marketing purposes. Clean Rebel’s minimalist formulas, on the other hand, focus on quality over quantity. We choose multifunctional, effective key components and eliminate anything unnecessary and artificial, allowing you to get visible results while avoiding product buildup. Our focus is on safety, efficacy, and sustainability in our formulas, while maintaining honest claims and authenticity.

Skin cells are constantly going through their own healing and elimination processes, throughout all of the skin layers. Essentially, when left alone, your skin can heal and rejuvenate itself (also called autophagy). The more substances you add, the more likely they are to interfere with this natural rejuvenation process. Applying a cosmetic product which contains fewer ingredients can therefore be more effective in supporting the skin’s natural functions.

For those with sensitive skin, using fewer ingredients also translates into less adverse skin reactions, such as irritation or allergies. Our advanced formulations do not leave space for unnecessary ingredients. We carefully select modern, multifunctional, and multibeneficial ingredients that elevate the efficacy of our formulas. Higher concentrations of beneficial ingredients translate into our formulas doing their job, and doing it well.

Reducing the number of ingredients within our formulas also lowers the demand for raw materials, which results in less extraction of natural resources. This, in turn, not only contributes to the preservation of the environment but also to significant waste reduction during the manufacturing process. Thus, minimalist formulas are as good for you as they are good for the planet, and the right choice for conscious consumers.
