Introducing Clean Rebel’s Chief Chemist: Valentina Bevacqua

“My mission is to help consumers to become more conscious and informed about cosmetic products and to guide them into a comprehensive cosmetics science education."

Valentina Bevacqua is a cosmetic chemist and cosmetic product formulator with more than 15 years of experience in researching and developing consumer products. She holds a Master of Chemistry Engineering and Advanced Materials, and obtained her additional certifications in cosmetic product safety evaluation from the Italian National Association of Cosmetic Chemistry (SICC Italia). It was always Valentina’s dream to be on the crossroad between science and beauty, and operating within these two dimensions allows her to give birth to incredible creations every day.

Apart from being a scientist, she is also a passionate and curious cosmetic product consumer. Her professional experience has allowed her to conceptualize and design any cosmetic product for any brand and market position. However, her specialty and passion lies with the so-called “white” cosmetics, which include face and body creams, body lotions, body milks, hair conditioners, and hair masks. “Let me share with you a little secret,” she says, “Creams and whatever cosmetic products you see as white, are actually not white. The human eye perceives them in that way, because it only sees the light that reflects on the surface of the millions of dispersed droplets in the product texture.”

Valentina is also very interested in the sensory profile of cosmetic products, i.e., the scientific discipline of how the customer experiences them when applied to the skin. Of course, the primary concern is to make products as pleasant as possible at every stage of application. But the science behind it is quite new and there will be many future discoveries in the fields of sensory analysis, cosmetic psychology, and global consumer science.

Since 2012, Valentina has also taught cosmetic science classes to non-professionals in order to enhance consumer knowledge by communicating it in a clear and understandable way. Her classes continue to help cosmetics consumers recognize fallacies and false claims, and to know how to find the correct information.

Valentina fell in love with the Clean Rebel concept from the very beginning because it coincided with her own ideas about how to create and communicate a cosmetics brand. She loved Clean Rebel’s real, consistent, and transparent values, based on a deep respect towards human health, the world we live in, and a deep commitment to quality and efficacy. “Clean Rebel combines the purest and most modern ingredients in a unique way thanks to the company’s visionary approach to skincare,” she says. “We took a scientific yet minimalist approach, letting the ingredients’ inherent benefits shine and combining them in non-traditional ways. The stable synergy between ingredients allows every ingredient to enhance its own role within the final product. They ‘feel good’ together and, additionally, they double or triple each other’s efficacy in combination. This makes Clean Rebel products exceptionally potent as well as delicate and sophisticated in their sensory profiles.”

In the following weeks and months, Valentina will be publishing a series of articles on the science of clean beauty right here on cleanrebel.com. Stay tuned for what’s to come!
